    • Provenance Details
Provenance: In a letter to Heather Stone, Manager, Armoury Information Centre, Auckland War Memorial Museum, dated 29 May 2000, the donor, Mrs P.H. Martin, of Auckland, relates the following:
"Enclosed please find a copy of 'Waiata Maori', a play written and produced by New Zealand prisoners of war in Oflag VA, Weinsberg, Germany. I hold an original myself, and I have donated a copy and an original to the Kippenberger Military Archive and Library, Waiuru [sic], and a further copy to the Alexander Turnbull National Library. According to my father, Captain J.I. Moir, the play was produced demonstrate to the prisoners from other nations, particularly the South Africans, the pride the New Zealanders had in both their country and their Maori heritage. It was also used as a cover for the activities of the Escape Committee. It may be of interest that one of the contributors of the Maori material was the uncle of Sir Howard Morrison." [Ref. Letter from P.H. Martin to Heather Stone, dated 29 May 2000, attached to donation paperwork filed under 'Martin, P.H.']

Location of original: Original copy of 'Waiata Maori' is held by Mrs P.H. Martin, of Auckland.
