The international exhibition Secrets of Stonehenge comes exclusively to Tāmaki Makaurau, opening on Thursday 15 December at Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum. Featuring over 300 ancient artefacts from more than 4,000 years ago, this exhibition shares the breakthrough scientific evidence that is unravelling the secrets behind one of the world’s most mysterious prehistoric monuments.

Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum will be lit green on Sunday 5 June to celebrate World Environment Day. The United Nations' principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment, World Environment Day is a global platform for raising awareness on environmental issues, with participation from over 143 countries annually.

A rare and real T. rex makes a world first debut at Auckland Museum
From Friday 15 April Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum will be the first ever Museum in the world to display Peter the T. rex. A fully grown mature adult, Peter is twelve metres long, nearly four metres high and displayed in his hunting position. This rare specimen is one of a small number of almost complete fossil Tyrannosaurus rex skeletons in the world and the first real T. rex fossil ever to be exhibited in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Applications now open for Sir Hugh Kawharu Scholarship
Applications are now open for the Sir Hugh Kawharu Scholarship, offered by the Kawharu Foundation in partnership with Auckland Museum. The $10,000 grant is open to students of Māori descent who are studying full-time at undergraduate or graduate level at a New Zealand university or wānanga and have an interest in cultural heritage.

Auckland Museum Showcases Award-Winning Nature Photographer in New Exhibition
On Thursday 7 April 2022 Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum will unveil the new exhibition Nature Boy: The Photography of Olaf Petersen. This is the first-ever exhibition dedicated solely to the work of Olaf Petersen, one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most talented and understated nature photographers of the 20th century.
