  • Description

New Zealand history diorama showing the interior of a gumdigger's hut, enclosed in light varnished wooden carry case. The case features two hinged doors, which swing open to reveal the scene inside. The scene is covered by a sheet of glass, and has two panels of text and illustrations on the back of each internal side panel regarding gumdigging. The text from the right side panel is removable, detailing the process of gumdigging using the "Hurdy Gurdy".

The gumdigger's hut includes a figure who is seated on a chair, in front of a fireplace. Small, round orange sticker in top right corner of the inside of diorama. A single brown carrying handle is centrally attached on the top of the case, attached with metal fastenings. Metal label screwed to case identifies it as Auckland Museum School Service resource #190. This case was available in the 1980s before the lending service ceased.
