    Nada Florence Priest was born on 1 June 1922, at Waihou, New Zealand. Raised on a farm, she attended Te Aroha College, and afterwards worked for a short time for a local timber merchant. She joined the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps (WAACs) on 6 June 1943.
