Our newly renovated Te Ao Mārama South Atrium is home to Hokohoko, the transformed Museum Store. Our store carries an extensive range of products including – wood carvings, pounamu (greenstone), weaving, jewellery, ceramics, glass, sculpture, gifts for kids and much more.

Every purchase you make helps us look after our treasures and bring history to life. The items you'll find in our store have been carefully selected to connect with our collections and support the Museum's role as a war memorial. We are passionate about supporting and showcasing our local artists and designers.

Jamie Berry

Te Aitanga-a-Mahaki, Rongowhakaata, Ngāti Porou, Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Ruanui

Jamie Berry is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores Aotearoa histories and reflects on her identity and place within the current timeline. Originally from Tūranganui-a-kiwa and now residing in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Jamie's practice is grounded in her whakapapa and focuses on the past, present, and future.

NGĀTI CHEEKY
Inspired by Jamie Berry's heritage and the vibrant energy of the East Coast, "Ngāti Cheeky" celebrates a playful, confident spirit deeply rooted in Māori culture. Ngāti Cheeky embodies the charmingly bold and witty "whakatoi" that is a true hallmark of her people.

Berry's upbringing, working in her parents' tuck shops, and the influence of confectionery branding design from the 1980s-90s era, along with the dynamic imagery that covered the walls of her marae, Rongopai, are the inspiration behind each Ngāti Cheeky’s name and colour palette. Bold, bright, and full of life – just like a good dose of 'cheeky' fun!
